  • The tradition of hanging stockings originated from a legend about a poor man who couldn't afford dowries for his three daughters. St. Nicholas, also known as Santa Claus, secretly dropped gold coins into their stockings, which were hanging by the fireplace to dry, so that the daughters could get married.


  • Germany is credited with starting the tradition of the Christmas tree. It is believed that the first decorated Christmas tree was introduced in the 16th century by Martin Luther, who was inspired by the beauty of stars shining through the evergreen trees.


  • The popular Christmas song "Jingle Bells" was originally intended as a Thanksgiving song. Written by James Lord Pierpont in 1857, it was originally titled "One Horse Open Sleigh" and was meant to be performed on Thanksgiving celebrations. However, it became associated with Christmas over time and has remained a beloved holiday tune ever since.
